Real Estate is an Incredible Occupation

I’ve been asked to speak at a conference early next year on the topic of recruitment. As such, I thought I’d share some of my insights:

As full disclosure, I spent 3 years in recruitment and loved it! This in no way makes me an expert, however it did give me the opportunity to learn and gain some invaluable skills.

Here at Buxton, we look internally first. We have had enormous success with our current team recruiting for us. A simple philosophy I suppose, but one that you can’t fake. If our team is happy, they tell people.

Real Estate is an incredible occupation. It is full of excitement, complexities and has a way of getting under your skin to become a part of your DNA.

If you have the slightest flicker of interest in a career in real estate, or you are curious if there is a better Real Estate business (culture) out there for you, then please read on.

We look for people who have a desire to learn, contribute, have a commitment to being the best and above all, someone who wants to be a ‘professional in property’.

We have an incredible support structure.

I reflect on Clayton Smith who joined us 5 years ago.

Clayton, a 20-year Estate Agent, wanted to work in an environment with a team who could cover the gaps so he could focus on his strengths. Clayton has incredible negotiation and client nurture skills; he is self-confessed as ‘not strong’ in the technical or marketing space. So, we set Clayton up with support to help his strengths shine. The result - Clayton was recognised as a top performer at our Buxton Awards this year.

Samantha Moffatt joined us 9 years with no previous real estate experience. We ran a considered program to set Sam up for success. A 2-year induction to ensure that a 'newbie’ wasn’t putting herself or our customers at risk. The result - Sam is now, year in year out, Top 1 or 2 within our group and a founding member of our leadership team.
